26 years old today (...yesterday?), woo. I don't feel old yet. (maybe I will once people stop mistaking me for a high schooler - happened again last weekend! oy vey. whatever, I'm used to it by now.)

Celebrated by getting totally wasted and—no. Actually we made a freaking AMAZING cake and watched the last two episodes of season 3 of The Wire (bring on season 4!). No regrets.

caaaaake. I don't often make cake cakes, especially not ones with layers and frostingand shit (I'm more of a pie girl), but this one is definitely going on The List. Perfect yellow cake, chocolate sour cream frosting. Rainbow sprinkles. Of course.

"When you go after honey with a balloon, the great thing is not to let the bees know you're coming."

It's also great to visit Ian and Anna in Ithaca, especially as they've recently started beekeeping! so off to the beehives we went, aided by one wonderful bee expert, aka Anna's dad...

...and then you raid (ha) the honeybees' uninhabited hive. sneak attack (errrr). and eat their delicious, delicious honey like a freaking BEAR. Or honey badger, depending on your inclination. I've always had an irrational aversion to honeycomb for some reason, but digging your fingers into it and scraaaaaping out last season's honey is basically the best thing ever. I mean it.

checking out the hives...

we didn't eat this, don't worry

I can't remember whether A.A. Milne's books played large part in my childhood or not, but I do know that I slept on Winnie the Pooh bedsheets for many, many years, which must have contributed to that long-held fantasy I've had of gorging myself on honeycomb in the woods. Like a bear. A sticky, honey-covered bear. I'm not alone in this, right?

In any case, consider that dream FULFILLED. Jenny and I visited Ian and Anna in Ithaca this weekend for springlike things, which these days includes things like beekeeping! And oh, there was honey. And buzzy bees. And fistfuls of honey straight from the (uninhabited) hive. It was great. I am one satisfied bear.
